Hydration
Our entire body functions best when it is well hydrated, and this is so important for infants through to the elderly.
The image above centre will look familiar to our clients. A not so 'subtle' reminder on the clinic roof above the massage table of the importance to keep well hydrated.
If you suffer from any of the below you may not be consuming enough water REGULARLY
- headaches / foggy head / dizziness
- fatigue / reduced concentration
- general muscle & body aches
- irritation / cranky mood
- thirst / dry mouth
- cramps
- dark urine
If you get tired of drinking plain water try these tips,
Flavour hot or cold water with Lemon, lime, or mint. (see Image below)
Fruit teas - these are great 'cold/hot brew' fruit teas in most supermarkets.
Try the 'Smooth' water from the Speights Tap Rattray Street Dunedin its notably special : )
Soda water - I use the soda stream maker for this, the bubbles are so refreshing.
AVOID : too much caffeine, in coffee and some teas as it is dehydrating.
Eating lots of FRUIT and VEGES will help boost your hydration,
Grapefruit, melon of any kind, strawberries, pears, apples, pineapples and plums contain over 85% water.
Cucumber, Lettuce, Zucchini, celery, tomato, cabbage, broccoli, all contain over 90% water.
PLEASE NOTE: Our poster does say to drink water before meals, this isn't completely ideal as it will dilute your gastric juices and reduce your bodies ability to digest its food,
However, this is directed at those of you who just don't remember to drink water through the day, using a meal as a reminder to drink water is a starting point for you, until you establish regular hydration habits through out the day.
