Here are a few wee tips to help you and your family remain full of enthusiasm and drive
- MOVEMENT – this will mean something different for everyone, whether it be a daily walk around the block or getting out on a mission with the family to somewhere you haven’t discovered before. Walking, biking, scooting, a kick around at the park make it something you enjoy, then it doesnt feel like a chore. There are also a multitude of online exercise programs you can do at home pick one that works for you. Get moving and keep moving.
- EAT WELL – Learn to cook like your grandparents fresh non processed food, avoid packaged foods learn to cook from scratch. A plate full of colour will serve you better than bulk bought Pasta, rice, & flour. Make sure your meals are varied this ensures you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
- SLEEP - Adequate amounts and quality of sleep are crucial for your body to repair and recover physically and mentally. Try going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, create a bed time routine to wind down at the end of the day, avoid screens, dont eat late, try to do something relaxing before bed, read, gentle stretching, take a bath, have a cup of camomile tea. Make sure your room is cool, dark, and quiet.
- KEEP IN TOUCH with friends & Family – Weeks and months can often roll around way too quickly, be sure to stay intouch with friends & family. Schedule a catch up in person or phone call each week with someone you havnt chatted with in a while. Surround yourself with people that lift you up.
- BE GRATEFUL – Some days you may not beable to see the 'wood for the trees' or just feel bogged under. Flip that feeling by being appreciative of the things you have around you - below are some examples
- being grumpy because you have to vacuum and clean the house FLIP IT - to I am so lucky to have a home to live in - Oh those lunch boxes I'm over having to make the lunches FLIP IT to how lucky am I to have family in my life to make lunches for & how lucky are we that we have food to put in them - When that pile of washing gets out of control, rather than getting huffy because you have to fold it FLIP IT to wow we are so lucky we have so many clothes to keep ourselves warm - the next time you feel rushed off your feet rushing from work to pick up the kids to go to sports practices FLIP IT to being grateful for having work, a car, and that the children are healthy and active.......................................................... so many things in life to be grateful for
- MINDFULNESS - be fully immersed in the moment, LOOK, LISTEN, FEEL - look at the world through the eyes of a child there are so many wonderful amazing things around us that as we age can become oblivious to - the blue skies, sunrises, the sound of the rain on the roof or the birds in the tree, your foggy breath on a chilly day, the feeling of filling your lungs with each breath.............
